Graduate students engaged in independent writing and research often feel isolated and estranged from their similarly absorbed peers. This workshop provides participants with strategies and ideas for facilitating their own writing groups. It discusses both pragmatic considerations that a writing group must consider as well as specific activities in which a writing group might engage. In addition, it provides suggestions for how to seek and provide effective feedback on writing. During the workshop, participants work with each other to both give and receive feedback on writing. After the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to remain in contact with each other in order to form a writing group of their own. Already established writing groups (or individuals in them) are also welcome to register. All participants should bring a piece of writing about which they would like feedback.
